Last night we checked out the Portland band Blouse at the Doug Fir. They are reminiscent of the Smiths mixed with Au Revoir Simone. It was a great show. I always forget how good the sound is at the Doug Fir. If they come your way, they are worth a listen.

The WHiT presentation took place at the Gramercy Park Hotel terrace this afternoon which was so picturesque! Her collection was a great combination of bright prints and patterns and soft neutrals. The classic silhouettes of the clothing looked great juxtaposed with the modernity of the jewelry by Orly Genger and incredible espadrilles by Belle by Sigerson Morrison! So Fresh.

Saturday Shows...

Samantha Pleet's Spring Collection was gorgeous! Great ready to wear pieces that were very minimal and clean. I loved her pairing with the tribal inspired jewelry and messy braided hair. I also loved her use of soft earth tones up against bright pops of color. I can definitely see all my girls in her pieces.

Milk Studios was so packed last night! My highlight celeb sightings were Anna Wintour & Bill Cunningham!

Anyways, the first presentation I saw was the gorgeous jewelry designs of Pamela Love. A mini symphony aided in the drama of the collection which was very south western inspired with chunky stones and lots of silver! So gorgeous.

The second show I saw was for Aldo Rise, which is not really my taste but I loved how strange it was. The clothes were like if Xena and Pocahontas were shot into space 3,000 years into the future. Lots of skin tight body suits, fringe and mesh.

Another show I saw was for Graeme Armour. This was in the penthouse studio at Milk which lead out to a terrace looking over the waterfront. I loved all the cutouts and use of mesh. The leather jackets were also fantastic! I kind of loved the use of the baseball caps in the styling!

This morning I went to the Rachel Antonoff presentation. As a Fashion week newbie I learned that a presentation differs from a runway show in that the models are stationary and the audience gets to walk around them. This gives you the opportunity to really examine each piece and for the designer to create a fashion installation. Antonoff's aesthetic has a very young and fresh vibe. The whole installation and attitude of the girls felt very Wednesday Adams which added a nice balance to the sweetness of the clothes. (Side note: Is the girl in the white eyelet blouse & black skirt from Americas Next Top Model like a million years ago?!) It's difficult to contain my excitement at these things.

Today was also Fashion's Night Out and the streets were bananas! My first stop was Love Adorned for a Gem Reading by self proclaimed Gem Intuitive Paul Wagenblast who takes your hands intuitively assigns you your power gems.

Then I headed over to 5th Avenue to the YSL party because my best friend's boyfriend's aunt's YSL guy said that Nikki Minaj was going to make an appearance (Pink Friday on repeat!). Apparently she showed up but all I saw.

One of our great friends Lahaina Alcantara recently moved to NYC. Since we couldn't not make it to Fashion Week ourselves, we asked her to be our eyes & ears. She will be guest blogging about the happens in New York fashion all week. Thanks Lahaina!

Here is her review of the Rachel Comey SS12 Collection:

It's my first week living in New York and my first fashion week! I can't think of a better way to start it all off than with a Rachel Comey show. Her playful use of color and pattern was definitely present in this collection. Lots of flowey dresses, loose trousers, and over sized blazers. Everything seemed to breeze right off the models on the runway as a spring collection should. My favorite pieces were definitely the white dresses with the abstract landscape painting on the bodice and the black beaded and mesh dress. DROOL.

Next Thursday, after Pendleton's Presentation in Park (8:30pm), the collection will be on sale in-store & hopefully online. Our hours will be extended to 10pm. We will be one of the 1st retailers to get the most coveted collection of the season. Come out next week for whiskey sodas, designers guest appearance, and of course the best of Fall fashions.

His controversial art work and complicated family history with the Chinese Communist Party makes this man a remarkable character. His work to expose truths of his country is shaking up the entire art world. My college teach of Professional Practice, Christian Viveros-Faune, still sends his students links to his articles. In his most recent piece for the Voice, he touches on the subject. I found it to be pretty right on. I hope you like it too.

On Thursday, May 12, 2011 from 12pm to 8pm, Lille Boutique and Frances May will be hosting a Trunk Show for New York City designer, Victoria Bartlett, and her label VPL (Visible Panty Line.) VPL began with a simple concept of drawing the innerwear out to become a visible, stylish part of our everyday uniform. VPL launched its first line of undergarment-inspired styles in the Fall of 2003, when well-known stylist Victoria Bartlett had a vision to design a capsule collection to fill the niche between lingerie and sportswear. As a stylist, Victoria acknowledged the growing demand for utilitarian yet stylish undergarments that can be mixed, matched, and layered, hence, the building block factor she encourages in her designs. Furthermore, Victoria began to question the assumption of sexiness in undergarments. With the bold assertion that "I don't do T and A," she challenged the fashion world with an innovative conception of sexy.

The event will be comprised of a Fall 2011 trunk show and Spring 2011 immediates sale from 12-6pm, followed by a cocktail hour and a meet-and-greet session with the designer from 6-8pm, where she will be offering up styling tips and suggestions on how to wear her designs. It will be held at The Cleaners at the Ace Hotel, located at 403 SW 10th Avenue at Stark Street.

Lille Boutique carries high-end lingerie and swimwear, with an emphasis on vintage-inspired, independent design and natural fibers. Frances May is a carefully curated men's and women's clothing boutique blending modern silhouettes with nostalgic charm. Both shops carry a wide selection of the VPL collection. Wanting to try something different this season, my grandmother and I decided to check out the fashion scene internationally. We arrived in Paris Saturday after an almost painless 12 hour flight to be greeted by bright sunny skies. We rented an apartment in the 6em arrondissement. The place is beautiful! I prefer to call it my new home for the next few days at least. Our neighbors are Sonia Rykiel, Burburry, and Dries Van Noten shops. My grandmother is in heaven. Most of the showrooms we have seen are in Le Marias which might be my favorite part of town so far. Historically Le Marias was the gay distract so naturally art, fashion, and music have been fostered and flourish here. This is also the home for shops like APC, Vanessa Bruno, and L'Eclaireur (a french institution not unlike Colette although a bit more shopable.) I'll keep you up-to-date on new finds and adventures as they arrive.

Day 2 of remodel

I'll keep you all posted on the progress of the remodel. We plan to re-open this Saturday. There's still a lot of work to do! Hopefully, we won't have to pull too many all nights. Starting the New Year with a fresh space feels great and will leave us with tons of room for Spring merchandise. Winter sale starts Jan. 8th with 30% all winter/fall inventory!

Shop American: Pendleton Announces Luxe New Line!

After joining forces with some of the coolest people in fashion (hello, Opening Ceremony ), Pendleton has been on the backs of every clotheshorse worth their salt this winter: It looks like the trend for heritage Americana fashion is here to stay. Not content to rest on their laurels, WWD reported yesterday that the Pendleton peeps have just announced a new line for fall '11, with a "trimmer" fit aimed at a younger customer base. Pendleton, The Portland Collection, will feature classic hallmarks of the brand, such as never-fail wool plaids and Navajo prints, re-imagined in contemporary ways. In an interesting move, the label has nabbed three up-and-coming designers from its hometown of Portland to create the new range—Nathaniel Crissman and Rachel Turk (creators of Church & State) will work alongside John Blasioli, the stylist behind indie legends' The Decemberists stage threads. Featuring dresses from $200, outerwear from $700, and accessories such as ties at $78, we're betting that Pendleton, the Portland Collection is going to be on everyone's lips come 2011. And, with this recession, who needs an excuse to shop American?
